Bad Movie Review

Battlefield Earth (12/06/26)

Battlefield Earth is a "movie" released in 2000. Scientology's finest creation. 1/10.

I'm always on the lookout for uniquely bad films, so I was pretty intrigued when I stumbled on this clip. Immediately I took a look at the reviews and was awestruck: 3% on Rotten Tomatoes, 1.3/5 on Letterboxd, 2.5/10 on IMDB. This was labelled worst of all time- I had to see it immediately.

I highly recommend watching this blind, it's a sight to behold in all honesty.

Immediately, you'll notice that Battlefield Earth takes a different perspective on how a movie should look. Literally I mean, the whole thing is filmed at a 45° angle. I don't know why.

Entirely unedited, it really is that bad

The only thing worse than the "cinematography" might be the ""writing"", or the """acting""", or the """"CGI"""".

The dialogue is unique, to say the least. When it's not Scientology propaganda (will get into that later), it's squarely in so-bad-its-good territory. My favourite has got to be "This symbol is a triangle", although the random laughing fits are a close second.

Every scene is also enhanced by the baffling editing, which I assume must have been done on some sort of crack cocaine.

The performances are what really sets it apart though. Battlefield Earth graduated from the Tommy Wiseau school of acting and it really helps make it entertaining. Entertainingly bad, mind you, but that's beside the point.

I guess I should also explain the whole scientology thing. Battlefield Earth (the original book) was written by the guy who founded the cult church of Scientology. Yes, seriously.

The movie's director is also a convert and lobbyist for Scientology. I've not mentioned the plot much to not spoil the 26 year-old movie, but safe to say you do notice the influence it has throughout. Personally though, that just makes the watching experience even more funny.

I had fun watching this, but like it has zero redeeming qualities at all. I don't think I could actually justify a higher rating than 1/10.

Bristol edition (08/03/26)

Cool car in bristol

Well this one turned out well! Not much of a story to tell per se, just happened to be wandering around town when we stumbled on this really cool looking car.

Not much actually needed to be adjusted here honestly. Shifted around the curves a little, tweaked the light settings and upped the textue and clarity settings. Mechanical stuff™️always looks better that way I think. I tried to really make the yellow pop on the car which was pretty successful, the salmon wall and dull pink flowers look super nice too.

Cropping definitely hurt this one because it feels a little... off? Like I think the car takes up more of the frame then it aught to. Maybe it has something to do with the van not actually being aligned properly (whoops!).

Unlike the car, this was a much more intentional shot. I really like architecture shots that don't include the full building, since it helps build a sense of scale, and oh boy does this thing have scale. The King Edward VII statue also lining up is just a bonus, but it does make for a great focal point. Shame about the people in frame, but I guess they do help make it look bigger.
